What holiness means

I want to tell you sweetest friends what holiness means.

If you will call up a friend and ask ‘can you do me a favor?’ and they will say ‘it depends’, and then you tell him what it is and he will say that he will do it, this is a good friend. But if you ask a friend to do you a favor and he says ‘it’s done already’, this is a holy friend. When people get married they say to each other ‘you should be holy unto me’. What does it mean 'to be holy unto me'? Holy means that you should really be there, really always be there.

We always say that G-d is holy. Why is G-d holy? Because he is always there, G-d is always there.

The Heilige Ishbitser says, what is called holy? He says holy means important. You know friends how deep this is? The difference between holy and unholy people is simple. A holy person knows what is important and what is not important. An unholy person does not know. Sometimes by mistake they are doing important things too, but they are doing it on an unimportant level. I have seen people giving one penny to a poor man on the level of holiness, and I have seen other people who happened to have saved someone's life on the level of unholiness.

Reb Nachman says something so deep. Reb Nachman says how will there suddenly be peace in the world? You think that suddenly the New York Times will proclaim peace and there will be peace in the world? Doesn’t go like this. So Reb Nachman says the most unbelievable thing. Something will happen to the world where people will stop telling each other about unimportant things, and they will talk to each other for the first time about real important things. Then they will realize howdeep life is, how important life is. Only then will they have peace with each other. You know friends, it's mind blowing when you think of it. There is no peace in the world because people never talk to each other about important things. There is peace between me and somebody I love when we can communicate over what the most important things are in the world.
